Will the Circle Be Unbroken
“Will the circle be unbroken, Bye and bye Lord bye and bye, There`s a better home a waiting, In the sky Lord in the sky…”. I have been singing these words all week since my mother passed away two weeks ago today. I always wondered what it would be like when my mother passed away as she was always such a huge part of my life. This week has been nothing like I ever imagined. When I look back on the last 4 months, it is amazing for me to see the power we have when we are ready to cross over and move on to our next journey. My mother passed on just like the way she lived her life…..her way. I feel so honored not only to be a part of her life, but also a part of her death. She chose the way she wanted to die and she did it with the same heart and spirit that she lived her life with.
When I gave the eulogy at her funeral, what came up for me was to share one of the many gifts that she had shared with me…..her heart. Her heart was so big and so genuine that when she met someone, they felt her love and her caring and just wanted to hug her. She touched so many people with her heart and with her huge smile. She had this gift that she just let other people see their hearts by them seeing hers. She was truly a mirror of love and caring. She helped me love myself and believe in who I was because she could see in me my big heart and all the love I had.
So when I hear all her friends come and tell stories about Mom’s big heart and how kind and sweet she is I know how lucky I was to be her son, her friend, and her protégé to keep carrying love out into this world every day. So I started today by singing “Will the circle be unbroken” to my daughter Kelsey while she walked to class. She loved it. It felt so good I asked my girlfriend, Marie-Pierre if I could sing it to her and she loved it…....so with all the love in my heart please join me with all our mother energy:
I was standing by the window
On a cold and cloudy day
When I saw the hearse come rolling
To carry my mother away
Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord bye and bye
There`s a better home a waiting
In the sky Lord in the sky
I said to the undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord I hate to see her go
Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord bye and bye
There`s a better home a waiting
In the sky Lord in the sky
Well I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in that grave
Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord bye and bye
There`s a better home a waiting
In the sky Lord in the sky
I went back home that home was lonesome
Since my mother, she was gone
All my brothers and sisters crying
What a home so sad and alone
We sang the songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that our mother taught us
Hear the angels sing along
Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord bye and bye
There`s a better home a waiting
In the sky Lord in the sky

Stan,
When my mom passed away, I kept the same song in my heart. I bought a gospel CD and listened to this song over and over. It gave me such comfort, sometimes through tears falling over a smile, but comfort all the same. Having known your mother, I can see where the song would comfort you as well.
